Typhoon Board to Gamify your Lessons!

One way to add competition among students in your classes is to use Typhoon Board. It is a grid of boxes. In each box, you can add money or points (+$200 / -$100), and some actions like S (Steal), T or R (Blow away all scores and back to 0), Swap (Exchange), and D (Double).

After completing a task or answering a question, students are asked to choose a box and add it to their scores. This will urge them to involve in order to get a score. Yes, it is a kind of extrinsic motivation that focuses more on scores, prizes and giving a sense of showing off, but believe me they will gradually move to intrinsic motivation that drives them to learn for learning.

Here are 3 versions of the Typhoon Board designed by other teachers:

Please, feel free to try this board out with your students and share your experience with us!
